
Michael Martone
Michael Martone is a regional planner with over a decade of experience in urban planning, real estate development, and municipal consulting. A native of Montclair, New Jersey, Michael attended Arizona State University, where he explored Architecture, Industrial Design, and Art History before finding his passion in city and regional planning. He graduated in 2009 with a degree in Urban Studies and a minor in Sociology.
Upon returning to the East Coast, Michael began his career with a disaster restoration company, rising to the role of Comptroller of its North Jersey office. While working, he pursued graduate studies at Rutgers University, earning a Master of City and Regional Planning with a focus on real estate finance and urban design.
Following graduate school, Michael joined the planning firm Topology as a Redevelopment Planner, where he partnered with multiple municipalities on a range of planning initiatives ranging from remediation and redevelopment of industrial sites to revitalization of historic downtowns. In 2020, he relocated to Maine to be closer to family, where he continued to build his expertise in real estate development and municipal consulting before joining the Mid-Coast Council of Governments (MCOG) for the first time in 2022.
Through his work with MCOG and subsequently as Town Planner for Damariscotta and Newcastle, Maine, Michael oversaw the day-to-day administration of municipal planning departments and led a variety of special projects. He rejoined MCOG in the summer of 2026, where he continues to support municipalities in their comprehensive and long-range planning efforts while leveraging his experience to advance key development and redevelopment initiatives.
Outside of work, Michael enjoys spending time with family and friends, skiing, swimming, reading, and traveling.
